Mi Cultura

Magdalena and Rosa Maria came about because I wanted to bring the beauty of my culture into my artwork. I danced Ballet Folklorico when I was young, taught it to my peers in high school, and continued to teach it to my students when I became an educator. The red lips and the braids honor a defining and encouraging part of my life.

No eyes, no ears, but the feel of the soft velvet, and the ribbons intertwined in our fingers reminds us that beauty is not always seen or heard, but felt.
